Passover & The Palm Sunday
The Significance of Passover and Palm Sunday: A Divine Intersection of Redemption and Triumph
The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread
As the Israelites observed these divinely ordained feasts in their homeland, they believed in the Appointed Feasts as an Ordinance and Ritual and did not realise that all the Appointed Feasts pointed to a person — Jesus Christ — and that He was right there before their very eyes.
In Luke 19 Jesus said,
“If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.” Luke 19:42.
This Passover 5785, The LORD Jesus gave me an enlightenment on the Passover through a statement, “And it came to pass…..” This fulfills the Passover events.
“Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless The LORD has commanded it?” Lamentations 3:37.
Every significant event that was completed since Jesus’s birth until his death, summed up to the main “Passover,” where Jesus himself was [sacrificial] The Lamb.
Until then, He also took part in the Passover many times during his life on the earth, knowing full well that in the fullness of time, He would be The Passover Lamb and it would be a victorious cry “and it came to pass”.
“Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.” Mark 14:49.
A Journey of Transition and Liberation
The passing over of numerous events ultimately led to the actual “Passover,” where the “Passover Lamb” was sacrificed.
As 1 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us, “Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch — as you really are. For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed,” giving us hope and freedom to live a life filled with purpose.
Passing over from mere destiny to divinity, is what was accomplished during the Passover by the Passover Lamb.
Key Highlights of The Passover
This transition, marked by “The Passover,” signifies a passing over from one event to the next, from one place to another, and from one moment to another, leading us to a brighter future, one that is filled with hope and joy.
“And thus you shall eat it: [a]with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is The LORD’s Passover.” Exodus 12:11.
Exodus 12:11 emphasizes the importance of eating the Passover in haste, with one’s cloak tucked into their belt, sandals on their feet, and staff in hand, reminding us to be prepared for the divine plan and its unfolding in our lives.
Whenever The Bible mentions the tucking in of one’s coat, putting on sandals, and taking a staff, it denotes a sense of urgency to complete a task.
This sense of urgency is exemplified in 1 Kings 18:46 and 2 Kings 4:29, inspiring us to take action and move forward with purpose and determination.
A Symbol of Urgency and Preparation
Both the Palm Sunday and Passover signal urgency.
Palm Sunday — “Untie the colt” was said of the colt as a command before any other burden could be placed over it! Its burden was”Passed over” by Jesus Christ .
The Passover Lamb and the Unleavened Bread
The Passover lamb (should be eaten in haste with bitter herbs the same night with no remains for the next day) and the unleavened bread (before the dough rises) symbolize urgency, by way of its preparation and observance so that the “Hour of deliverance” stands out! (Exodus 12:8-10)
A Symbol of Redemption from corruption of the world
“Leavening of the bread” is caused by the “yeast” which is compared to sin.
Jesus is the unleavened bread with NO sin or corruption.
He was The Lamb who passed over from death to life. (Mark 14:48 “But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”)
Darkness to light, earth to heaven, sickness to wholeness, bondage to liberty, sin to righteousness at the time of significance — “… and it came to pass”
“A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” Galatians 5:9.
“Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?” 1 Corinthians 5:6.
John 1:36 identifies Jesus as the “Lamb of God,” while 1 Corinthians 5:7 reaffirms that Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
The unleavened bread, as mentioned in Exodus 12:34 and Exodus 13:6-7 serves as a reminder of the importance of purity and holiness, guiding us towards redemption and a deeper connection with God.
A Vigil Night of The LORD
The Passover was a vigil night of The LORD — a time when He kept His Children safe through the night on a vigil, by passing over the doorposts of their houses sprinkled with the blood of the lamb they had eaten.
Numbers 9:11 instructs, the Passover lamb was to be eaten with unleavened bread and bitter herbs on the fourteenth day of the second month at twilight, reminding us of God’s protection and care for us.
Preparation for the Passover
“So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.” Mark 14:13-16.
Preparation for The Palm Sunday
“As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The LORD needs it.’”
Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
They replied, “The LORD needs it.”
They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.” Luke 19:29-35.
The Palm Sunday: “Untie the Colt” Significance and Truth
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you;righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9.
1. Untying the colt : Is a message of deliverance, delivering the beast of its burden and it was made to carry a yoke easy and burden light — Jesus Christ. A Beast of burden was set free by having asked to be untied.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.
2. Righteous : The King coming as one who is righteous, is likened to the palm tree.
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in The House of The LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God,” Psalm 92:12-13.
3. Salvation :
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.” Revelation 7:9-10.
4. Humility :
“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [a]robbery to be equal with God, 7 but [b]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:5-8.
Significant timelines — “And it came to Pass”
“And it came to pass [after] many days, that the word of The LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.” 1 Kings 18:1.
Now that it has been passed over to us, it needs be guarded and kept until the coming of Jesus Christ.
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.
“For I received from The LORD what I also passed on to you: The LORD Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim The LORD ’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
“Not one word of all the good promises that The LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.” Joshua 21:45.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4.
How does God pass over us?
“Like birds hovering overhead, The LORD Almighty will shield Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver it, he will pass over it and will rescue it.” Isaiah 31:5.
