This “messenger” idea is actually one of the main tasks of angels in the Bible.
They are the Delivery Servants of God. Often when they appeared the first words they said were “Do not be afraid!’ This was probably because everyone there WAS afraid!
The angels in the Word of God seem to have been terrifying. Men fainted and women cried when they realized they were talking with an angel. After all, angels were the ministers of judgment sent from God.
When God really wants to make a point, expect angels to make it. Both biblical and modern day events shout this out loud!
Throughout the years God has graciously sent “angelic visitors” to shake away the dullness of our souls and the slowness of our faith. Some of us have our own stories, and this is the time to tell them!
But be careful! Even if angels, make messages supernatural, they are still simply the “delivery servants” of God!
It’s the message itself that counts.
And that message is this.
The Son of God has become human so that humans might become children of God. The possibility of our total transformation can take place by the living God, creating new birth in the human heart and forming Christ within us. WOW! (see Galatians 4:19)
This is what needs to capture the imaginations and hearts of people!
“I am the servant, the handmaiden of The LORD. May it be done to me just as you have said,”
As Mary uttered these words, she laid herself upon God’s altar in absolute abandonment to God’s will, that He might do in her, and through her, whatever pleased Him.
May we live this Christmas season, by echoing the submissive and humble words of Mary after Gabriel tells her of the plan and will of God for her life, regardless of the judgements and shaming of others.
May we yield completely to the changes, challenges and even upheavals that God allows in order to move heaven and earth into unison to bring ultimate Glory to God.
“My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you,” Galatians 4:19
“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her,” Luke 1:38.
