“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ,”   1 Peter 2:5.

It should be quite obvious that we live in a world where we are flooded continually with videos, images, and a cacophony of texts that come to us every minute of every day.

The world that most of us live in has now become the digital world.  We can view pictures and scenes that are happening around the world almost simultaneously from when they have just happened.

And yet one would often wonder if this world that we have now become so accustomed to is replacing the world that we now see in front of us.

I have developed many close relationships with people through the avenue of the internet even though I haven’t met them face-to-face.  And yet these are real people and they live real lives.

But to many, this digital life can and is oftentimes very superficial.  For the people that we communicate with are only seen through the images that are projected on our computer screens over hundreds and thousands of miles away.

For many though, this is their life and perhaps it is the only life that they will ever know.  And yet it is true that the ultimate truth that we all seek and follow after can be displayed and seen through the relationships that we do share through this means.

Heart-felt discussions, honest debates, and friendly and loving communication can and does travel over the networks tying various people with one another.  And through this means, words and stories that once could not have been told, are now available to all, and are now shared with thousands.

But we can still ask ourselves the haunting question of, “Is this real if I cannot touch it?”

For we are not able to embrace those who travel through this cobweb of wires and modems.  We haven’t knocked on their doors and perhaps shared a cup of coffee with them.

But what is the body of Christ?

Does it exist only in a building of wood or stone, or is a building not constructed by human hands, but only seen by those who have eyes to see?

The living stones make up a Church which is His Body.  And those living stones can be seen among those relationships that are knitted together in love even through the network which many of us are on.
