Watch out for Guns, Weapons and Heavy Artillery! — 2 Comments

  1. The original words in Hebrew tells in many ways what is going on around us, and ‘the name’ used for weaving a net around the world we can see.
“They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD,” Isaiah 66:17.

    Mouse: Strong’s Hebrew Number 5909: עַכְבָּר, ‛akbâr, ak-bawr’.
probably from the same as 5908 in the secondary sense of attacking; a mouse.
    Strong’s Hebrew Number 5908: עַכָּבִישׁ ‛akkâbı̂ysh, ak-kaw-beesh’.
probably from an unused root in the literal sense of entangling; a spider (as weaving a network): spider.

    • Dear Maria,
I note interestingly also that H5908: עַכָּבִישׁ ‛akkâbı̂ysh, ak-kaw-beesh’ meaning spider, is only used in two verses in the Bible:
Job 8:14 “Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web.”
And Isaiah 59:5 quoted above: “They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper,” KJV.
Knowing the meanings in the original language, certainly does as color and meaning to our understanding of the English scriptures.
Thanks so much for your comment and your continued patronage of HKP.  Greatly appreciated!
      Blessings in Christ,
      Angus
