“Only, as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this manner let him walk. Every one of us has our own walk with the Lord,”   1 Corinthians 7:17.

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep,”   Romans 12:15.

Every one of us in this life has their own particular series of incidents that have occurred that make us who we are.  Many of us have had tragedies which have occurred in our lives that no one else has ever had.  Some of us have been successful in business ventures, and have lived perhaps, a life of ease.  While others have had to struggle every day just to make ends meet.

The point is, that each of us is different and unique in how we have been created, and our lives have been paved with personal issues that others can’t relate to.  And yet, even with our differences we all share many things in common.  We all hopefully have a desire to live a life worthy of following after our LORD.

We all share in the hope of our salvation and believe in the unseen presence of God in and around us.  We all believe in being merciful and loving to the downtrodden or the poor.  We all need air to breathe and sustenance for our bodies.

We come from families of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters.  We come from hard-working farmers or steel workers from the cities and rural areas.  We’ve been born to rich and sometimes poor, families.  Perhaps our fathers left and deserted us at an early age, or our childhoods never experienced the absence of a mother or a father.

And when we all face our own personal trials and tragedies, we often are given wisdom not unlike that which was given to Job from his “friends.”  Surely, they had a corner on the truth.  Surely, their nuggets of gold would be received, and would help.

And yet we know that many offer advice and perhaps even correction at times, thinking that they’ve heard from God.  They think that the verses they quote and the suggestions that they give, will be heard.  And at times, these words and phrases are received with a willing heart, because of the sincerity that is given.  But, even in those heart-felt moments given from merciful counselors, our individual paths are unique and different from everyone else.

Those that speak haven’t traveled through these thorns and bushes like we have.  They haven’t risen at dawn to pray for a dying spouse, or have held the scrawny hand of a cancer-infested child.

God calls us to weep with those who weep, and to rejoice with those who rejoice.  They are times when words fall to the ground, and our voices need to be silenced.  May we be endowed with the wisdom to know these things, and to understand the depth of the mercies and counsels of God Almighty.
